Winter long term white water paddler development course
Aimed at the intermediate white-water paddler that wants an ongoing course offering designed to make you more confident and competent in the environment. You’d need to be comfortable on grade two and able to make some eddies and down stream moves in this grade (not just smash down the middle). Rolling is ideal but not essential and boats and paddles can be hired/borrowed on a first come first serve basis.
One day, two day or weeklong courses are great, you get coaching and guiding in the moment that can feel like you’ve come on leaps and bounds and you come away buzzing. You’ll often get a debrief including how to continue the practice in your own time, this is the potential short fall.. Life can get in the way very well sometimes meaning you don’t get the time in boats that you were after or intended to get.
The winter long term paddler development course is a weekend a month over six months during winter and builds a long-term plan to help you to move towards your paddling goals. The first weekend will likely be a long-term goal setting weekend where we do some coaching on the water both days and build in the action plan for the following coaching interactions on the Saturday evening.
This could be be working towards things like building confidence and resilience in the environment, increasing technical and tactical ability (what stroke or movement to use and where), river reading, understanding features, moving water rolling (done in the warmer weekends) and understanding safety and rescue methods in the environment. This course could also be suitable if you were wanting input towards becoming a white water leader (not part of the course but covers lots of the elements that would help)
Cost of the course is £900 per person (weekend courses are normally around the £200 mark a saving of £300) and includes all coaching, guiding and water fees.
