This will be the first of our ‘slice of’ courses series. As paddlers we are aware of the movement potential that a half slice or full slice river kayak can have on your river reading, running and enjoyment of the white-water environment, we are also very aware that the endless joy stories sound much better over a good slice of local cake (not the priority, we’ll maximise time on the water). There’s this course in a cake tin! We’ll look at all the river running and river play moves that you can muster (and that are appropriate for you) in stunning settings, on awe inspiring rivers, with local legends and whimsical cake (if appropriate).
For our first course we will be teaming up with top coach Georgina Maxwell who knows the Scottish highlands very well from the steep creek playground of Glen Etive to the home runs of the ‘mozza’ (Morriston) there isn’t an eddy, boof or surf wave that hasn’t been shredded by GMax!
Who’s this aimed at?
The confident grade 3-4 paddler that’s looking to up skill with river techniques like river reading in more advanced water, boofing and accelerating and river play skills like wave moves (front and back surfs and flat spins), eddy line moves (tailies and cartwheels) and down river moves like hammers, air’s and wave wheels (again, if appropriate to the group and environment).
What’s required
Reliable roll on the river, comfortable grade three ability and good ‘chatter’ in the café over cake (more of a desired than a required). Own boats would be ideal (this could be a full slice, half slice or no slice as all can be thrown around) however demo boats (river boats) are available to hire for this course.
