The alpine setting is one that should be experienced by all white water paddlers, from the bright blue waters of Slovenia and Italy to the glacial grey of places like Austria and the France the alps can leave you with lifelong paddling tales to tell. Team this up with stunning scenery, amazing food and different traditions and local history and it can make for a paddling trip like no other. It’s no wonder paddling clubs, groups of mates and independent providers all make an annual pilgrimage.
This isn’t an alpine course offering, instead this is a week-long package, based in the Scottish highlands, is designed to help prepare you for the difference in the nature of paddling experienced in the Alps. This could be things like developing deliberate focal changes (snow melt creates larger volume rivers, you need to look further downstream for features), technical and tactical skills like boofing drops, punching through stoppers, flying through wave trains or carving into eddies and the practice of rescues in faster moving water.
