This weekend is aimed at the confident and comfortable intermediate sea kayaker that wants to progress into the advanced environment and Pembrokeshire has it all. If the weather’s on our side we will look at things like preparing for exposed trips like open crossings to the Lighthouse on South Bishop, circumnavigations of islands like Skomer and Skokholm or paddling the tide races of the Bitches in Ramsey Sound or Jack Sound or the numerous surf opportunities that Pembrokeshire offers. If the weather isn’t playing the game there’s still opportunity to venture into the advanced environments with things like advanced rock hopping, understanding tidal speeds and tidal gates and navigation and buoyage skills.

We have teamed up with Adam Harmer for this course to give small ratios, ample opportunities for coaching input and the ability to work as two smaller teams if needed. Adam comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience of sea kayaking and paddlesport coaching, having paddled on all 7 continents his background expands from working at the National Centre as a senior instructor, he has worked on outdoor degrees for universities like UCLAN and Liverpool John Moores, has a role as a National Trainer for Paddle Cymru and now works for himself as a Technical Expert and Adventure Sports Consultant.

To get the most from this course we suggest that you’ve paddled in tide races/overfalls and surf before, have been out in force four winds and have done the coastal navigation and tide planning as a minimum (open water nav and tidal planning would be ideal, check out Online Sea Kayaking for an online course). Confident roll in the environment required.
